Elsewhere
An atlas of impossible places you can step inside
Visit websiteI created three surreal environments connected by portals, with scenery that responds to the cursor and a distinct sound for each place

Give the imagination somewhere to go
Elsewhere is an atlas of three fictional places: a tidal room, quiet dunes and a stair above the clouds. I built the visual direction around pale skies, monumental architecture, reflective water and portals into another landscape. The large editorial title and sparse interface leave room for the scenery.
The project extends the experiential approach of After Hours into a brighter, more open world. Visitors choose a destination, step inside and spend time there. There is no booking flow or product catalogue; exploring the environment is the purpose of the website.
Make each transition part of the place
The architectural scenery was developed with generated images and integrated into a custom WebGL scene. Pointer movement shifts the foreground more than the sky, while subtle distortion adds movement to the water, sand and clouds. The result is an image-based environment with depth cues, rather than a freely navigable 3D model.
Choosing another place reveals its landscape through an expanding portal transition. Entering a place clears the centre of the screen and moves its title and short text toward the edges. Visitors can touch the water, stir the sand or move the clouds through the scene or a dedicated control.

Let the atmosphere change with the landscape
The tidal room combines a slow swell of filtered surf with a low resonance. The dunes use an airy, changing wind. The cloud stair replaces that continuous texture with sparse pitched chimes. Each place has a distinct sound generated live in the browser with the Web Audio API.
Sound begins only when the visitor enables it. The same controls remain available throughout the experience, and motion can be switched off. Phone layouts reframe the scenery so the portal remains visible while the text and actions stay within reach.

A small world with a complete way through it
Elsewhere is a working public website with three environments, direct destination links, keyboard navigation, original ambient sound and layouts adapted to desktop and phone screens. The project brings art direction, interaction design and creative development together in an independent portfolio piece.
